STUDENT RESEARCH CONFERENCE 2017

On the morning of May 19, 2017, University of Foreign Language Studies – The University of Da Nang successfully organized the Student Research Conference 2017. Attending the Conference were Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Ngoc Vu – Vice Director of the University of Da Nang, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Le Hung – Vice Dean of Department of Science, Technology & Environment, the University of Da Nang, Dr. Dao Thi Thanh Phuong – Vice Principal of the University of Foreign Language Studies – The University of Da Nang and nearly 1,000 officials, lecturers and students of the University.

 

In the opening speech, Dr. Dao Thi Thanh Phuong has emphasized the role, significance and position of scientific research in general and student scientific research in particular in the improvement of training quality, prestige and trademark of the University. Conducting scientific research not only helps students achieve high academic results but also helps them shape soft skills in life such as presentation skills, teamwork skills, problem solving skills, etc. In addition, scientific research helps students form critical thinking, independent thinking and creative thinking. “The Student Research Conference 2017 gathered 77 subjects with 119 students participating in the reports selected from 143 subjects with the participation of more than 242 students of 8 Departments in the University, this impressive figure represents a serious investment as well as a passion for scientific research amongst the students. Under the enthusiastic guidance of the department members, the topics of this year generally have an increase in quality and diversity in the research areas such as language, translation, teaching methodology, culture, intercultural, international, economic and social issues. Most of the reports are of relatively high-quality scientific content and practical application. The research results of the topics are also useful materials for teaching and learning.” – Dr. Dao Thi Thanh Phuong said.

“The Student Research Conference 2017 is truly a festival of research and creativity of youth, an ideal place for the exchange of knowledge, learning and research experience and an opportunity to demonstrate the intellectual capacity of students trained in a high-quality academic environment of the University of Foreign Language Studies – The University of Da Nang. At Student Research Conferences at university-level and ministry-level, scientific researches of students of our University have always achieved grand prizes; most recently, in 2014, the scientific research of our students won second prize at the Student Research Conference at ministry-level; in 2016, the scientific researches of our students won third and consolation prize. We hope that to maintain the great success of this year’s Student Research Conference, the scientific research movement in students will keep flourishing and in the upcoming Student Research Conference at ministry-level, scientific researches of our students will win grand prizes and articles written by some students will be published in international journals, thereby contributing to the prestige of the University of Foreign Language Studies and the University of Da Nang.” – Dr. Dao Thi Thanh Phuong added.

On behalf of the leadership of the University of Da Nang, in his speech at the opening session, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Ngoc Vu acknowledged the effectiveness in scientific research activities of the University of Foreign Language Studies – The University of Da Nang. He said that scientific research activities of lecturers and students have been the most convincing accomplishment of the University in the past few years. “In recent years, scientific research activities in general and student scientific research activities in particular at the University of Foreign Language Studies have achieved significant and commendable outcomes. The Departments and University have organized many counseling sessions to assist students in developing the capabilities to conduct a scientific research. Therefore, the quality of student scientific researches are increasingly improved. The prizes won by students of the University in Student Research Conferences at ministry-level, articles published in international journals, etc. have verified the effectiveness of the student scientific research movement at the University of Foreign Language Studies.”

 

Vo Le Dinh Van (class 13SPA01), one of the students whose article is published in international journal said: “Being able to study at the University of Foreign Language Studies – The University of Da Nang is a great blessing for us because here the teachers are not only passionate about educating us but also supporting, mentoring and helping us discover new things. Scientific research helps us grow up a lot. It also equips us with a solid knowledge base and effective work management – a must-have factor for students in the integration period.

At the conference, 77 researches were selected to report and approved. The topics focused on various areas such as language, translation, teaching methodology, culture, intercultural, international, economic and social issues.

 

The participating groups presented their research results confidently and convincingly. Their researches and performances were considered to be of high quality by the Report Council. 73 prizes were awarded including 8 first prizes, 16 second prizes, 24 third prizes and 25 consolation prizes.
