INTERNSHIP PROGRAM IN TAIWAN 2019

During the period between April 9th and May 05th 2019, The Faculty of English, the University of Foreign Language Studies (UFLS), in cooperation with the Expanded Education Department, the University of Feng Chia, Taichung organized the internship program for its students to practice their internship abroad.
The intern group from the UFLS included 16 students, including 14 students from the Faculty of English and 02 students from the Faculty of International Studies. Under the main guidance of Ass. Prof. Dr Nguyen Thi Quynh Hoa and the support of Ms Nguyen Le An Phuong, the group achieved significant results in the program.
Representatives from Feng Chia University were Ms Irene Yang and teachers from the Expanded Education Department who provided a direct guidance for the intern group.

Typical weekly activities included language and culture classes, marketing programs on local produce, group internship and self-study. The details are presented as follows:
  1. Basic Mandarin class (08 two hour sessions)
  • Introduction to Mandarin language
  • Four tones in Mandarin
  • Daily communication
  • Syllables and cardinal numbers
  • Countries
  • Colors
  • Shopping and ordering in restaurants
  • Locations and asking for directions

  1. Culture course (08 two hour sessions). Students learnt about unique cultural features of people from Taiwan in particular and from China in general.
  • Calligraphy
  • Mooncake making
  • Paper cutting (kirigami)

3. Marketing Program on Local Agriculture Products (04 days, 08 hours per day): Students visited some famous places in Taichung to collect data to make videos for presentation.

  • Learned how to make a video with the computer software IMAC
  • Visited Lukang traditional village and organic farm

4. Detailed internship program: 16 students assigned in different small groups had their own internship plans.
  • Group A: worked at the Chinese Language Centre
  • Group B + C: worked at Shang Shi and Shang An primary schools.
  • Group D: worked at the Office of Extensive Education

5. Self-study (major part of the internship program). Students did their research for information to meet internship requirements and they also spent time on relaxation and entertainment. Many modern facilities on campus were available for researching and learning purposes. They included:
  • School library
  • Ren Yan building

6. Other activities in the internship.
  • Welcoming and farewell parties
  • Tour of the university campus and facilities
  • Orientation to the internship program
  • Private meetings held by the host university
The internship schedule presented a proper balance between various activities including class attendance for new knowledge, self-study, sports, entertainment, small group internship and outdoor activities.
Despite difficulties encountered during the first days in a foreign country, the students were able to adapt to the new environment due to the great assistance from the Feng Chia and mutual support among the students.
The students had a great deal of unforgettable experience during the internship. They had the chance to acquire useful knowledge and explore unique features of the nation which they could only hear about through means of mass media.

It is hoped that from the following academic year, UFLS, the University of Danang will have more exchange programs and international internship plans so that its students will have the opportunity to travel beyond the country border and broaden their knowledge.
