VIETNAMESE LEARNERS’ STUDY OF ENGLISH WORD USAGES IN KOREAN

On the 31st of July at the Meeting Hall C303 The Closing Ceremony of Language-Culture Translation Project (LCTP) between Chung Ang University (CAU) and University of Foreign Language Studies – UD (UFLS) was held in the warm atmosphere where the students of the two universities completed their presentation and were presented the certificates of participation.
The project was a mutually beneficial collaboration between CAU and UFLS-UD with the close collaboration between the professors and staffs of UFLS-UD and CAU. The exchange program consists of (1) the project for language-culture translation between Korean and Vietnamese (by way of English loanwords) between CAU and UDN English students and faculty (*Faculty and students of Korean language department can join in this project.), (2) Short-term workshop on the topics of language and culture, (3) English student exchange during regular semesters and (4) Research collaboration among faculty members of CAU & UDN English departments. The Teams were set up with 20 Korean students who are all majoring in English language and literature – six students are male, and fourteen are female, 10 Vietnamese students from Faculty of English making 5 groups (four CAU students and two UFLS student in each group).

A lexical analysis of English words within the context of their usage in Korean language
The comparison of the usages of English words between two different cultural contexts

It is hoped that students from both universities can have more significant events like LCTP with which students can enhance their critical thinking, creative thinking and teamwork skills with fruitful outcomes.
